Designed for your linguistic journey
Three definitions for every word — one for each type of learner.
English
Every entry has an English translation — simple, clear, and ready for non-Hindi speakers who want to understand what a word means.
Hindi (Devanagari)
The original Devanagari definition sourced from Hindi WordNet (IIT Bombay) — authoritative and academically verified.
Hinglish (Roman)
Hindi meanings written in Roman script — for the diaspora and learners who speak Hindi but can't read Devanagari.
Why HinglishKosh?
Over 600 million people in India communicate daily in Hinglish — a natural blend of Hindi and English written in the Roman script. It's how you text your friends, type on WhatsApp, and scroll through social media.
Yet before this, there was no open dictionary for it. Academic resources use ISO 15919 transliteration (cāy, pānī) — accurate but nobody types that way. Commercial keyboards keep their dictionaries closed.
HinglishKosh fixes that.
